Josh "JOP!" Opdenaker - Claw Pendants

Originally from Philly, Josh "JOP!" Opdenaker got his start with glass as a borosilicate lamp worker, while attending the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. Eventually earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts, with a  focus on stone carving in 2002. 

After graduating, Josh Opdenaker turned his focus to making Glass Pipes. However, at the time, making Glass Pipes was still widely considered an "Outlaw Artform". To avoid scrutiny, he adopted the moniker JOP! 

A pioneer in the heady glass industry, by 2003, JOP! became the first Permanent Resident Artist at the Philadelphia Glass Works. In 2005, he became the first artist to represent themselves at the Champs Trade Show in Las Vegas, NV. Making a name for himself, with his chicken designs.

Shortly afterwards, he established his studio in the Fishtown Neighborhood of Philly.

In 2014, JOP! teamed up with Elbo Glass, to establish the Front Street Gallery in the Kensington Neighborhood of Philadelphia; with the goal of bringing other Philadelphia Glass Artists into the Limelight. The Front Street Gallery helped establish Philadelphia, PA as a modern Mecca of Glassblowing, a testament to his pioneering ways.

Josh "JOP!" Opdenaker has exhibited his art around the world, his work is known to obscure the line between a pipe and a sculpture. In 2008, his work was exhibited at The Sculpture Objects Functional Art and Design fair. In 2019, JOP! was Invited to judge the 2019 European Flame Off in London. 

When speaking of his art, Josh "JOP!" Opdenaker stated:

"If nothing else, view my work as original. Technique and craft can be learned, originality cannot. You either have it, or you do not."
